PUTT PUTT FOR A PURPOSE

A 1948 Ferguson, a very long road — and two causes worth supporting

Ferguson Club members will know that a good tractor is built for the long haul. In June 2027, one remarkable little grey Ferguson will be proving exactly that. The family behind Putt Putt For a Purpose plans to drive their restored 1948 Ferguson, Jimmy, from Land’s End to John O’Groats — the length of Britain at a decidedly unhurried pace.
The challenge begins on 19 June 2027. It is more than a tractor run: the journey is being undertaken to raise £10,000 for Cancer Research UK and Combat Stress, while raising awareness and bringing people together around two causes that are deeply personal to the family.
Why these charities? The fundraising has a very personal foundation. Katie, a member of the Putt Putt
family, was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer and underwent major treatment. Andy, an Army veteran and former Royal Signals Staff Sergeant, has also experienced the impact of PTSD. Those experiences have inspired the family to turn a daunting tractor adventure into something positive — raising money, awareness and hope along the way.

Supporting veterans and members of the Armed Forces community with mental health care, treatment
and support.
For Ferguson enthusiasts, there is an extra reason to follow the story: Jimmy is a genuine piece of Ferguson history. Built in 1948 and restored for the challenge, he is named in memory of Jim, the family’s grandfather and a former RAF Lancaster bomber pilot. The journey will inevitably bring mechanical challenges, slow miles and plenty of stories — but that is part of the fun.
