60 years since the launch of the Jensen FF
The Jensen FF was introduced in October 1966 at the Earl’s Court Motor Show in London, alongside its sibling the standard Jensen Interceptor.
Release Date: October 19, 1966
- Significance: It was the world’s first non-all-terrain production car equipped with permanent four-wheel drive (using the Ferguson Formula) and mechanical anti-lock brakes (Dunlop Maxaret), beating the Audi Quattro to full-time 4WD in a passenger car by nearly 15 years.
- Design & Differences: Styled similarly to the Carrozzeria Touring–designed Interceptor, the FF featured a slightly longer wheelbase (extended by 4 to 5 inches) and twin side louvres/air vents on the front wings to accommodate the mechanical 4WD hardware.
- Powertrain: Powered by a 6.3-liter (383 cu in) Chrysler V8 engine paired with a 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission.
- Production Run: Built from 1966 to 1971, with only about 320 to 330 units produced due to its high cost and exclusive right-hand-drive configuration.
