1955 Ferguson TEF20 (Diesel); Road registered LFF572 – V5 is in hand. Serial number 448558.
Full nut-and-bolt restoration. Literally every single part dismantled and vapour-blasted or replaced. No expense spared. Not been used since.Full photographic history of the restoration is detailed here:
Now up and running and drives but needs final tuning and fettling. I’ve run of out of time and unfortunately we need to sell it after all that hard work, as we need to raise a bit of cash. Gutting really.
Since the restoration it did sit outside for a couple of months so there is some surface rust and some paint peeling, however all these photos were just taken under bright lights, so they are accurate.
Video of it running shows it smoking, which is not just due to need for tuning, but also overfilling the air cleaner with too thin an oil, which was getting pulled in and burned!
As you can see from the restoration photos in the link, the brakes and clutch are new, as are all seals, bearings, rings – etc. Head professional skimmed too. Injection pump professionally rebuilt by a specialist (I stripped it down and cleaned and rebuilt it, but then sent it away for proper calibration and verification). Injectors only reconditioned by a specialist earlier this month.
Tractor is on the Isle of Wight. It lived at Calbourne Cricket Ground for a lot of its life before its gearbox seized due to water ingress down the gearstick. It was then left outside to rot until we saved it. We replaced the gearbox with one from a similar year as part of the restoration – but even that we still fully stripped down and rebuilt. Priced to sell, and to reflect that it’s not quite yet fully “on the button” (that said, once warm, it does fire up on the button, but it needs that final tuning). Happy to deliver for free by trailer anywhere on the IOW Island, or anywhere else in the UK at cost.
