Fergie TEF20 injection pump

I'm Restoring a TEF20 and want to repaint the engine, but the injection pump is in the way for doing a good job. Can I remove the pump once all timing marks are lined up and pump and casing has been marked for spill settings, will I need to re-time the pump from scratch or just replace the pump if nothing has moved?

There should all ready be a mark on the timing cover and pump, just check where they are then just unbolt the pump. Do not turn the pump or engine and you will be ok. When you have the pump off it may be worth checking the 2 felt filters in the back of the pump, if they have not been changed before.
