Check Chain Attachment?

Post by Steve »

Hello, my tractor (Tea20) is missing the bolts/studs that are used to attach the check chains around the PTO. Dose anyone know, firstly, should they be bolts or studs? And secondly what size/thread they are? And if anyone knows where I could get some from as well that would be great!
Thanks

(I was going to post a picture but can’t wort out how to do it)

From memory there should be a pair of 'C' shaped brackets that fit onto the pto carrier bolts, and the check chains shackle to those.
What could possibly go wrong?

Yes I have the chains and the brackets but the 4 bolts/studs are missing on the tractor. I’ve tried a couple of old fergi bolts I had laying around but non fit. I was hoping someone out there might know the size I need otherwise I guess I’ll just have to buy a handful of different sizes and try them all.

Thanks for replying :D

Ah, sorry see where you're going now.
Mr. Ferguson was a shrewd operator and bolt/thread sizes were used in multiple places on the machine. Might be worth taking an odd bolt out here and there and trying them in the bracket holes. I think they were originally studs but once you have a thread that fits, finding or having studs machined should be quite straight forward.

Hi
The 4 studs that you require are 7/16 UNC one end and 7/16 UNF the other. The UNC end screws into the tractor casting, they are approximately 2" 3/4
long. They are available on the internet.
