Fergie TED 20TVO

Post by Alptf »

Hi,

We have got our Fergie runing, can any one suggest which unleaded fuel would be better. The Super Unleaded or oridinary Unleaded E!0 i think.

I have heard that the E 10 is not good for older engines.

Many Thanks,
Alwyn

Congrats on getting your TED running!

Everywhere I have read, people suggest to use E5 (Super). As you probably know, the RON and MON ratings are irrelevant for our tractors.
Others also recommend putting a drop of 2 stroke oil in, others say a lead additive... whilst some people say no need for either! Given the state of the fuel 70 years ago, they are probably right...

Personally, for starting and warming only, I use Shell Super (E5) and put a drop of the lead additive in. I then switch to TVO.
Within the TVO side I also use Shell Super (E5), but within my TVO mix (4:1 Kerosene) I use some 2 stroke (~250-500ml for 25L mix).

I would be interested in hearing peoples thoughts on why E10 should be avoided...
Assumably for us, it would be corrosion related due to increased moisture? Thinking accelerated corrosion within fuel tank and carb?
I did read somewhere the increased level of ethanol can perish plastics and rubbers quicker - not sure this specifically would be such a big issue on our older tractors.
