Help! Im very confused.
I've been asked to help get a TED-20 back up and running, it needs a battery, but there are no markings available on any of the electrical components for me to identify if its a 6v or 12v tractor.
I have copies of the workshop and service manuals, and a sparex parts manual but the information is a bit ambiguous.
The Serial no is TED 177468
The Engine No is S154092E
The service manual states that tractors with a serial no of 200001 onwards are 12v everything before is 6v making my tractor a 6v
The service manual then states in the technical specifications for the TED-20 to refer to the data for the TEA-20 which then states that the battery is 12v 38ah
A further piece of information states that engine numbers S112391E onwards are 12v making my tractor 12v
The aftermarket parts manual that I have only lists a 12v battery for a TED-20, but lists 6v and 12v options for TE, TEA and TEF variants.
How do I tell if my tractor has a 6v or 12v electrical system?
TED-20 6v or 12v
Re: TED-20 6v or 12v
If your tractor is original it should be 6 volt. 6 volt dynamo should be Lucas Model C45X with a serial number of 22420B. 12 volt dynamo should be Lucas Model C39P/2 with a serial number of 2259. these numbers should be on the center part of the dynamo. in my book it says the same as you 6 volts to 12 volts happened at 200001. TED 20. 177468 was made February 1951.
Re: TED-20 6v or 12v
Thanks Sandy,
I've cleaned the dynamo, and came up with the following:
I can make out a faint C39 P2 stamped into the casing with a service no of 22251A it seems to have V60 V6 stamped into the casing as well so I suspect its had a replacement dynamo fitted from some kind of donor vehicle.
I have also found the casting no of M418G on the starter which is coming back as a 6v starter so I would assume its a 6v system.
