TEA20 getting it running again

Post by AntAllen »

Hi all,

Looking for some basic "restoration" advice.

We got our TEA20 home. It's not run for "a few years" - about 5 yrs I think. Engine was stuck but I soaked WD40 down the plug holes and after a few weeks it has came free and now turns quite smoothly on the crank handle. I'm wanting to get it running with a view to then tidying it up bit by bit over a few years with my 10yr old son. Some things will have to be sorted - like a broken HT lead and rodent damaged wiring. Other bits might be wise so as not to cause damage unnecessarily, but ultimately we want it running, and then we'll tackle any issues one by one. That's our intention anyhow.

Wiring needs replacing. Coolant hoses look shot so I'll replace those. Radiator looks iffy but not actually leaking - could be empty. There's still some fuel in the main tank - will that be ok or should I drain it and throw it away? Should I service the carb or try it as it? What about transmission and hydraulics? Steering? Linkages? Anything else? We don't need hydraulics right now, just want it to start, and then to drive.

What else should I do before trying to run it?

All advice appreciated.

We also need to sort some wheels and tyres. It has odd wheels at the moment. One side look like 135 wheels (no gaps and round centres). One newish rear. One very worn but ok rear. Tractor leans as a result, but rims could be different sizes. The worn rear doesn't hold air for more than a few weeks. Will it have a tube??? Fronts are mismatch wheels too and both tyres have had it. One exploded when I blew it up! What's the cheapest way to get them all matching and usable??? We would like turf tyres eventually but not essential right now. Again, any advice?

Thanks
Ant
