Rubber coupler in 6v bendex drive

Post by AntAllen »

Hi all,

Anyone know where I can get a new rubber coupler for my Lucas 6v starter? It's Lucas Part number 291350.

Item 19 in the attached image.

The rubber has perished and the inner metal bush has been easily removed, so no drive torque from the pinion.

Alternatively, does anyone know how to repair one? Liquid rubber compound of some sort?

Shops seem to sell replacement 12v starter but it would be nice to mend this one. Other than the slipping rubber coupling it seems to be working fine after a DIY overhaul.

Thanks
Ant

Hi. If you are thinking of trying to repair the drive coupling, you could try using a 2 part liquid polyurethane casting resin. The other product you could try is Tiger seal which is a Polyurethane glue, not sure which one would be the strongest.
