TEA/TED head stud length

Post by patrickblue »

Anyone on here knowledgeable on TEA/TED head studs?

I'm in the process of a rebuild, and have got to refitting the head. The block I am building is two head studs short. The studs in the block are 133.5mm, the studs out of my old engine are 129mm.
The only replacements I can find are 132mm or 140.4mm. Where I getting really confused is that the Old 20 site lists the 140mm stud as fitting only a TVO, yet the short 129mm ones are out of a TVO (my old engine).
The same site also states that the thread length on either end is shorter on the 140mm stud at 19.7mm. The 132mm has thread lengths of 23.2mm.
Both of the studs I have (129 and 133.5mm) appear to have the shorter thread length.
I've ordered a couple of 132mm studs, hoping I can get away with them, but if anyone can cast some light on the subject I'd be very grateful.

Hi. The 129 mm short studs that you have are for a straight petrol engine, your 132 mm studs will be ok to use. Regarding the thread length, make sure the stud does not bottom out in the hole, eg the stud should be tight before touching the bottom of the hole.
