35X loses oil pressure
35X loses oil pressure
I have an MF35X which gradually loses oil pressure and will run for about 45 mins before the oil pressure needle has slipped into the red. The tractor is used for topping my meadow, I now mow half one day and the rest the next day The oil and filter were changed this spring. My worry is that the engine is so worn the oil slips past everything as it gets hot, therefore losing pressure or could it be the oil pump? Would thicker oil help? - I'm using universal at the moment. I hope its not terminal, does anyone have experience of this? Many thanks Rich

Hi Rich
There are lots of answers to your questions, yes thicker oil would make a little bit of difference, I would use Eurofleet 30.
When hot is the needle in the red at tick over or with reves on the engine.
Is the oil gauge needle steady or fluctuating.
The best way to check the pressure is with a pressure gauge.
You could also try adding some extra oil, up to about 1 litre will be ok just to try.

Re: 35X loses oil pressure
Hi Sandy
Thanks, when the engine is hot and after about 40 mins use the needle is in the red, on low revs/tick over it goes completely to the left, on high revs will go closer to the green. It is steady, not fluctuating unless I rev. I have had a pressure gauge on it which shows about 25 when the needle is about 1/3rd into the red, pressure goes down when just on tick over. So it seems the gauge on the tractor is working OK. At the moment I have the oil just below max on the dipstick, I'll try with a bit more.
Cheers Rich

Re: 35X loses oil pressure
Hi Rich.
Looking at the information that I have for oil pressure, when engine is hot at tick over 10 to 15 PSI is ok, over 1100 rpm 25 to 30 PSI or above is ok. When engine is cold the pressure should be approximately 50 to 65 PSI at about 1500 rpm. Personally I would try a new oil pressure Gauge.
