Hi, I’m working on a 135 that the hydraulics stopped working on. The filter was quite mucky so fitted a new one but still not working. I’ve now got the pump out and nothing looks amiss could it be a valve stuck? Any suggestions? Also where is the serial number to determine the year? The plate on the dash is not there. Thanks

Hi. The control valve is worked by the lever that the steel roller fit in, with the pump removed the lever should be in the vertical position with the bottom bit that attaches to the control vale with the pin and 2 little rollers tight against the suction housing. Moving the top of the lever forward should pull the valve out of the housing, and letting go it should spring back in. If this is working ok the valve is ok. The other way to test the pump, is to reinstall the pump into the backend without fitting the lift top. Once the pump is fitted, fill the backend with enough oil to cover the pump, but keep below the side plate bolt holes. Start the tractor at tick over and move the control vale lever back and forward to see if it pumps oil.

Depending on the age of your tractor, if the engine sump plug is in the middle of the sump there will be a manufacturing date when the sump was made, this will give you an approximate date of when the tractor was made. Add appropriate 10 from the sump date to the tractor build date. If the sump has the drain plug to the right hand side there will be no date on the sump. the other place there is a date code is near the dip stick on the backend casting, you will need to send the code to me if you want the casting date or look it up on the internet. The code is like 27. B. R.
