Ferguson Club Milestone

Ferguson Club Membership Milestone Reached

It is with GREAT JOY I have to tell you all…….

We have 2025 fully paid up members and still growing….

I wish to thank each and everyone of you who’s put in time and effort for the Ferguson Club.

I well remember sitting at a committee meeting and the then membership secretary saying we have 530 members, we’ll not get many more now ! oh yee of little faith.

Please watch out for the next Journal (due out any day now) you will see the first of many changes starting to come through that the General Committee have launched.

I feel very humble being the General Secretary and also very very proud to being part of such a great Club.

Alan Dunderdale General Secretary. December 2016

If your not a member, sorry for taking up your time reading this, though you could join the Best Ferguson Club in the World!

Tractor Run in aid of McMillan Cancer Support

Tractor Run in aid of McMillan Cancer Support (Scott Brenson)

On 16th October 80 plus tractors supported this charity event. It was in aid of Scott Brenson (To support a valued long serving employee, Scott Brenson, who was sadly diagnosed with terminal lung cancer 18 months ago, ATBone&Sons a Hertfordshire based family farming business organised a ‘tractor run’ and bbq from their premises near St Albans on 16th October (Scotts 47th birthday).

A fabulous sum was raised  –  at least £12000 for McMillan cancer support through the event which far outstripped our expectations. The organisers are really grateful for everyone’s support. Scott had an amazing birthday sharing it with everyone. Photos and videos of the day can be found on the facebook event page ‘Scott’s tractor run’ hosted by Becky Bone.
Thank you again

The Ferguson Club 30th Anniversary Working Weekend

The Ferguson Club 30th Anniversary Working Weekend…

was held at Crow Tree Farm, Spalding Marsh, on 17th-18th September 2016 by kind permission of Lincolnshire Field Products. We had static displays; set ‘potatoes’ and picked them; spread vegetable waste; set up the Cultivation Square for people to try; drilled and dragged; and ploughed, using all things Ferguson or Massey Ferguson. Not everything was vintage! Chandlers very kindly supplied some modern equipment and we were allowed to use the tractor and plough alongside its predecessors. This really put a smile on visitors faces.

On Sunday two ploughing matches were held. The European T20 & GP Ferguson Ploughs Match, and a Massey/Ferguson Class. We had 12 entries for the T20 class and 9 entries for the MF/Ferguson class. Plus, many people just honed their skills on the designated ploughing areas.

Charlie Roberts of Leicestershire won the European T20 Class and John Sharpe the MF/Ferguson Class.

We had around 100 visitors on Saturday and many, many more on Sunday. There were around 70 tractors on site and many implements, with participants coming from Yorkshire, Lancashire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Gloucestershire, Cambridgeshire and all corners of Lincolnshire. Thank you to you all, without you we would not have had such a successful working weekend.

The donation tubs resulted in £250 being collected and sent to Spalding and Holbeach Macmillan Cancer Support.

The winner of the European T20 class was on plot 11 and by some fluke I (Judy Jeffries) actually took a photo!
Also, there is a photo below with John Sharpe in too. JJ is dragging in the square and Mickey Smith driving the tractor spinning the potatoes out with Paul Beecham picking. (Lots of us had a go at this!! and setting too.)…..

The Great Flying Challenge

Harry Ferguson  – First Man to fly in Ireland – “The Great Flying Challenge” on BBC2

The BBC have made a series of programmes detailing Harry Ferguson’s amazing exploits over 116 years ago. Harry designed, built and flew the first aircraft in Ireland.

The programmes show a team re-creating the aircraft to a similar design. They then go on to get the aircraft in the air to re-create the short flight Harry Ferguson bravely accomplished all those years ago.

10th Chiltern Vintage Tractor Charity Run

Ferguson club ; 10th Chiltern Vintage Tractor Charity Run

On Sunday 15th May The Ferguson Club organised the 10th Chiltern Tractor run. The majority of the run was “off road” and 70 tractors took part of all vintage makes.

It was a full day run with bacon butties to start – a comprehensive BBQ lunch at Wycombe Air Park and cakes to end after 26 miles. The Thames Valley Air Ambulance charity was the recipient of the monies raised. The helicopter even managed to fly in and land to meet the tractor drivers and their families over lunch.

The final total of all money raised from the event, to include raffle, food takings, sponsorship, donations came to £6,598.88 ! This is a truly amazing amount of money from this one event. It has broken all records for the event, now in it’s 10th year.

Mid Suffolk Tractor Road Run

Mid Suffolk Tractor Road Run

RAISE MONEY FOR CHARITY

On Sunday 10 July 2016, 48 vintage and classic tractors took part in a road run to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The fifth annual Mid Suffolk Tractor road run was organised by Ferguson Club member Don Sapsford. There were examples of Ferguson TEAs,
TEDs,TEFs and aTEP yellow industrial tractor. Massey Fergusons were35s 35xs,65s.135s,and a 165. Tractor drivers came from Suffolk,Norfolk,Essex, and Cambridge and were given a small plaque as a reminder of the day. There were larger wooden plaques for the furthest driven tractor driver and the best “ex farm tractor in original condition” The convoy set off from a local country park and travelled through local villages before stopping at a pub for an excellent snack lunch. On route many people waved from their gardens and local cars were happy to move over to allow the convey to get through the narrow country lanes.
The event cost £10 per tractor to enter with further funds coming from a raffle, prizes given by local businesses and the general public . In all £1,245 was raised for the Macmillan Cancer
Support.
A very enjoyable day with everyone arriving back at the park with a smile on their face!

Ferguson Club Country-Wide Tractor Run -2016

Ferguson Club Nationwide Tractor Runs for Charity  – Completion Certificate (download below)…….

This National Tractor Run was undertaken as an event to commemorate the name of Harry Ferguson and his production of the Ferguson T.20 in 1946, and also the 30th anniversary of The Ferguson Club, which had been formed in the memory of Harry Ferguson and his “little grey Fergy”.

Having been given the task of running this event, I have done so to the best of my ability. I would like to sincerely thank all those who have taken part in the event – both individually and by organising tractor runs in your areas – in most cases with great success.

When I came up with the idea of a national tractor run my intention was to raise the profile of the Ferguson Club, with Club members contributing by either entering their tractors in a run or giving a donation towards the charity. With the support of Macmillan Cancer Support there was wide-spread media coverage, including local press and also a couple of TV slots regarding the Ferguson Club.

The total amount raised for Macmillan Cancer Support is £3,844.80, with the total number of tractors taking part across the UK being 279. An entry fee for each tractor was £10.00, with the balance being made up of donations from individuals. A cheque for the amount raised will be presented to the Macmillan Cancer Support charity at a time and place agreed between the Officers of the Club and the Macmillan charity.

From 1 July those wishing to have a certificate may download one, signed by the Chairman, from the Club website.

Finally, and most importantly, I would like to thank my daughter Beverley for doing all the paperwork and computer work, and for being on-call 24/7. Also my daughter Valerie who, along with her friend, works hard raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and acted as the go-between with Macmillan HQ.
